If you are a Christian like me, you have a prayer life. If you are a Christian like me, you also struggle with that prayer life sometimes, and wish it could be more powerful and dynamic.
Here are three things I have discovered that really transform my prayer life from ordinary to extraordinary in those tough times:
1. Be Bold – When was the last time you asked God for something impossible? I’ve discovered that I spend a lot of time thinking about what I want, but very little time actually asking God for it. The next time you pray, be audacious. Think crazy. Incorporate your imagination into your prayer life. Picture a desired result…and then double it. Triple it! Make your prayers bigger. You’ll be surprised what it does for your faith.
2. Be Specific – When my prayers get bogged down, I usually find that they have become generic. I’ve discovered that the more specific I get, the more my prayer life comes alive. Replace “meet my financial need” with “God, please provide $3,593.23 for this need.” You’ll find that specific prayers get specific results.
3. Be Unselfish – Another sure-fire sign that my prayer life is getting stagnant is when all my prayers are about me. It’s amazing how quickly selfishness can creep into our prayers. What percentage of your prayers are about you? There’s nothing wrong with praying for ourselves mind you, but it’s important to remember others too. This quote illustrates that: “If God answered your prayers, would the world be different- or just your life?”
These three things have really helped me. Try them! I think they’ll do the same for you.
