The Importance of Healing

April 21, 2011

What if your body never healed? What if you still had every scratch you’d ever gotten? What if every bone you’d ever broken stayed that way? Think of every bump, bruise, and burn. Every nick and cut. What would you look like if you’re body never healed? We would be a mess!

But we are made up of more than just a body; we have a heart. And not just a physical one- an emotional one. So an even more important question would be: what if your heart never healed?

It’s impossible to live life without getting hurt physically. No matter how careful you are, you will get scratched eventually. Something will get broken or bruised. And you will need physical healing.

It’s also impossible to live life without getting hurt emotionally. No matter how careful you are, you will get misunderstood eventually. Promises will get broken and dreams will get bruised. And you will need emotional healing.

You know what emotional hurt feels like. Maybe you’re all too familiar with it. Your heart bears the scratches of neglect or abuse. And at some point or another, you’ve been lied to or talked about or abandoned. Someone turned their back on you, criticized you, or ignored you. And in those moments, emotional injuries were inflicted.

But unlike our body, our heart does not always automatically heal itself. And if healing doesn’t take place, we become an emotional mess of accumulated injuries. Does that describe you, or someone you know?

Does your heart need healing? Then know that I am praying for you. God knew you would read this today. And maybe He knew you needed prayer.

And remember that His healing love can heal any wound, no matter how deep. Open your heart to Him. Tell Him how it hurts. He understands. After all, He knows what it’s like to be broken and rejected.

Don’t try to hide your hurts. Lay them open before God. Pour out your heart and soul. He will listen. And you will find that He is the ultimate Healer.

He mends hearts. He soothes hurts. He renews dreams.

He comforts. He strengthens. He heals.

“…he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted.” – Jesus (Isaiah 61:1)
