How?\r\n\r\nAre you ready? Here it is: The secret is your daily routine.\r\n\r\nI know, I know. Doesn’t sound very exciting. But trust me, it’s powerful. The secret to achievement is your daily routine.\r\n\r\nPsychologists estimate that up to 90% of our behavior is habitual- 90%! The Greek philosopher Aristotle observed, “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit.\r\n\r\nIn his wonderful book “Put Your Dream to the Test John Maxwell said: “Your daily habits will determine the outcome of your life. The secret to your success can be found in your daily agenda. Successful people don’t just drift to victory. Individuals who achieve big dreams don’t get there by accident.\r\n\r\nTHE RAINDROP PRINCIPLE\r\n\r\nLosing weight (and keeping it off) is the result of many days of eating right and exercising. A powerful prayer life is the result of many hours of time with God. It’s what I call, “The Raindrop Principle. One raindrop has never washed away an entire city. But if you take a million raindrops and put them together, it creates a flood with great power. The greatest achievements, growth, success, and victories in our life are usually not the result of a single moment, but the accumulation of many moments (i.e. a consistent habit).\r\n\r\nOr as Robert Ringer wrote in Million Dollar Habits:\r\n\r\nRemember, life is nothing more than the sum total of many successful years; a successful year is nothing more than the sum total of many successful months; a successful month is nothing more than the sum total of many successful weeks; a successful week is nothing more than the sum total of many successful days. That’s why practicing successful habits day in and day out is the most certain way to win over the long term.\r\n\r\nTo quote Maxwell again, “If your habits don’t line up with your dream, then you need to either change your habits or change your dream. If you want to hold onto your dream, then be prepared for a battle to change your habits because a bad habit never goes away by itself.\r\n\r\nSo ask yourself, “Is my daily routine helping me achieve my physical and spiritual goals? If you can’t answer yes, why not? What changes do you need to make?\r\n\r\nHere are some tips to help you get started:\r\n

    \r\n

  • It takes time. Developing a manageable, consistent, and powerful daily routine that takes you toward your goals is a process. It will take some trial and error to figure out what works best for you.
  • \r\n

  • It takes diligence. This is the tough part. You can lay out a beautiful daily schedule that includes all the habits to you need…but it’s useless, unless you actually do it.
  • \r\n

  • It takes commitment. It takes 21 days to engrain a new habit. So stick with it! Even when you mess up or miss a day, pick right back up and start again.
