How To Be Happier In 5 Minutes

Many, O LORD my God, are thy wonderful works which thou hast done, and thy thoughts which are to us-ward: they cannot be reckoned up in order unto thee: if I would declare and speak of them, they are more than can be numbered. – Psalm 40:5\r\n\r\nI believe our attitude is a direct result of our thoughts. A happy person is one who is thinking happy thoughts. Want to be depressed? Think depressing thoughts.\r\n

\r\n

\r\nHere’s an example that proves it: I decided to make a list of the things I was thankful for. I began writing them down. When I finally gave up (because there were too many to count), I was happier than when I began. Notice: Nothing in my life changed. Except the thoughts I was thinking. By focusing my thoughts on good things, I immediately began feeling happier. \r\n\r\nBut don’t take my word for it. Try it for yourself! I challenge you: write down 25 things you’re thankful for. Don’t overthink it. Just randomly write them down as they come to you. You’ll be amazed what it does for you!\r\n\r\nHere’s my list of things I have to be grateful for (in no particular order):\r\n\r\n1. That God has forgiven my sin\r\n2. My Bible\r\n3. The ability to hear laughter\r\n4. The ability to laugh\r\n5. The great pleasure of waking up without the worry of trying to find my next meal\r\n6. A beautiful house\r\n7. An even more beautiful home\r\n8. My amazing family\r\n9. Money in the bank\r\n10. The Holy Spirit and all He does for me\r\n11. The ability to see. (And many beautiful things to see.)\r\n12. Many years of wonderful memories\r\n13. A wonderful church\r\n14. A steady, weekly income\r\n15. A great collection of books to read\r\n16. The ability to taste\r\n17. The patience of God\r\n18. Many, many clothes to wear\r\n19. A mansion in heaven God is building for me right now\r\n20. God\’s unending love\r\n21. A familly of six who all love each other (no divorce, no broken relationships, no hard feelings)\r\n22. Living in America\r\n23. The freedom to worship\r\n24. The many wonderful, wonderful friends I have\r\n25. My laptop\r\n26. The young men in jail our church ministers to each Thursday\r\n27. The ability to breathe deeply and clearly\r\n28. The way God is moving in my church right now\r\n29. My boss\r\n30. The use of my legs and limbs\r\n31. My grandparents\r\n32. Golf\r\n33. The right to vote\r\n34. The amazing opportunity to work for God\r\n35. Prayer\r\n36. God\’s omnipotence\r\n37. God\’s omnipresence\r\n38. God\’s omniscience\r\n39. Peace\r\n40. The influence of great people in my life\r\n41. God\’s hand of protection\r\n42. My Godly heritage\r\n43. God\’s faithfulness\r\n44. The problems in my life\r\n45. Hope\r\n\r\nOnce you\’ve made your list, hang on to it. The next time you pray, go down the list and thank God for each thing. You\’ll be amazed how it will help your prayer life!\r\n\r\nWhat are some of the things on your list? Tell me! Comment
